Seminyak Beach - energetic, fashionable and extravagantThese are the best three words that could describe flamboyantly imposing Seminyak beach. Bali is actually famous for two types of beaches: for the relaxing, secluded little paradise spots such as Padang Padang and for the bountiful energetic and live beaches such as Seminyak. If you want a good slice of Bali, you should visit both types.
If you’re staying at Mia Villa resort, you’re only a stone’s throw away from Seminyak (around 20 minutes).
Beach tours on HorsebackIt is already a well recognized tradition that tourists admire the wonderful sunset on horseback rides here at Seminyak beach. Just delight your senses by taking a horse ride through the beautiful rice terrace regions (especially take a tour through Kerobokan), because there is no other activity that will give you the tranquility and inner peace that you need so much. Before sunset, or early in the morning, horseback riding tours are almost mandatory if you come to the Seminyak area.
Pamper… Rejuvenate… Spa!In Seminyak you will find plenty of Spa facilities, where you can indulge in some pampering for all your senses. After all, you are on holiday, and you deserve the best treatment you can get. So here is a list of top Spa facility choices around Seminyak:
- Prana Spa – Indian and Moroccan style Spa center where you can indulge in water massage therapies, traditional oil massage sessions, or rejuvenate by spending a few minutes in the steam room. Aroma therapy cream baths are a specialty here as well. When you are done, get a pedicure and manicure as a finishing touch, and you are good as new!
- At Chill Reflexology Center- you will find many packages available, yoga courses, and several treatments that will rid you of those back or shoulder pains. A reflexology and acupressure treatment performed by a professional therapist will definitely have a beneficial effect on your entire system. You may be wondering about the prices? Well, hold on to your hats, because one entire hour of reflexology and massage starts as low as $15. A body pressure point massage (60 minutes long) is merely $17-$20. While if you want an energy boost treatment, for a half-hour treatment you will only pay $10. Here you will learn what it means to be renewed!
Surfing and Family ClubsTake your surfboard and ride the mighty waves here in Seminyak. Surfing is a trendy water sport activity here, and even beginners will find guided courses if they want to conquer the ocean waves.
The Canggu Family Club will give your entire family a pleasant time; here you can play tennis, squash, swim in one of the specially designed pools, work out at the gym & aerobics classes, plus plenty of fun playgrounds will keep the little ones busy for a good while. This family club facility can be found halfway between Seminyak and the Tanah Lot temple.

White Beach - Padang Bai's White
Padang Bai has actually two famous and wonderful beaches: one is the Blue Lagoon Beach, and the other is White Beach, called Bias Tegul Beach. With the public ferry to Lombok you will quickly be able to delight yourself with the wonderful sights unraveling in front of you here at White Beach. Where does its name come from? Certainly from the smooth, immaculate white soft sand that covers the beach of Tegul. There are plenty of sports activities you can be a part of here, but you can also just sit lazily in the sun, take a splash in the water and then relax again. White Beach cannot be compared to the tumultuous beaches of the South where you barely have space to breathe. These are good for when you are in the mood to be surrounded by many people and loud noises, but White Beach is the ultimate place for relaxation.
How to get there?
If you choose you take your refreshments at Bamboo Paradise in Padang Bai, then immediately on the left side from this café you will find the road to White Beach. Just make sure you do not miss the sign saying “Bias Tegul”, which is White Beach. There will be a little bit of climbing up the steep hill; therefore it is a good idea to keep your luggage light, containing only the necessary things. After walking a few meters up the hills, in order to get to this secluded spot, you will also need to go down again. While going down the hill and reaching the beach, Mount Agung will rise opulently in front of your eyes. What scenery!
A wonderful diving site
This is what you are going to find here at White beach- a varied underwater fish life decorating the vividly colored coral reef backdrop. Here you will see pink squat lobsters resting on the sponges, and the pigmy seahorses colored in hues of grey, yellow, red and orange. If you are lucky enough, you can also catch a glimpse of an ocean sunfish (or the mola-mola) that might be wandering the deep seas here at White Beach.
Other activities to enjoy
You can have a nice swim here on White Beach; however, the currents might be strong at times, so you should swim carefully. Given the fact that the sand is so smooth and comfortable here, you could have a nice game of beach volley with your entire family or friends.
The place is also nice for a picnic, and if you haven’t brought your food with you, you can still buy some delicious bites from the warungs that are scattered here and there.
Padang Bai in general offers many interesting tourist activities, and when you had enough of an entire day on the beach you can head towards the wonderful sacred temples in the area. The two tiny and secluded beaches of Padang Bai, the Blue Lagoon and White Beach will definitely mesmerize all your senses. Just explore the wonderful area of Padang Bai!

Madewi Beach - the beautiful Tabanan region
If you want to get away from the overcrowded tourist hotspots in Bali, you should definitely visit Madewi beach. Here you will meet a quiet atmosphere, a remote beachside that will offer you plenty of hours of relaxation. If you are going to Madewi from Denpasar, it is around 70 kilometers away; while if you visit it coming from the city of Tabanan, it is only 35 kilometers away. Apart from being a wonderful place for those long walks, Madewi beach is quite famous for surfing. The place is not at all ruined by industrial sites, so if you want to see pure nature then Madewi can offer you that too.
The great beach
Actually, Madewi is not the most perfect site for taking those comfortable sunbathing sessions, but it is the most perfect place for sightseeing and walking. The beach has black volcanic sand and here you can also find many interesting stone boulders scattered alongside the beach. At sunset, you can find many couples admiring the wonderful sun sinking into the Ocean.
Great surf sessions
Madewi beach is definitely a surfer’s paradise, thanks to its mighty waves coming through all day long. Just take your board, and try to tame those waves using your skills. There are many tourists, who are actually not familiar in to surfing, but they take a few lessons at the local surf club, and they are ready to feel the adrenaline on the ocean. Bali is not the place for feeling shy that you don’t know how to surf! Just make sure you get properly trained by professionals to teach you, and you will be able to feel the enjoyment shortly.
Where to eat well
After putting your surfing skills to the test and finishing off those long walks, you will definitely need some delicious food. At approximately 10 kilometers east of Madewi beach, there is a very famous restaurant, Tahu, offering local traditional food - their specialty is mainly Indonesian Cuisine. Sit down, admire the almighty ocean and have a nice refreshing drink and some local delicatessen bites.
Closest sites of interest from Madewi beach?
Well, at approximately 20km away there is the town of Negara (west of Madewi). Right outside of Negara, is where the famous buffalo races are held, (the so called Mekepungs) which are much loved activities by tourists. Then, halfway between Madewi beach and Negara there is a temple you could also visit, called Rambut Siwi. Although many tourists just pass through Negara, rather than enjoy it, you should definitely make a stop and admire all the beauties you can see here.
Follow the road to Gilimanuk from Negara, and visit the famous anthropological museum Situs Purbakala. After this tiny cultural trip, you should jump on the ferry and visit the island of Java.
As you can notice, Medewi beach is a very good area to start your mini trip, especially if you want to make it meaningful. Not so far away, magnificent Java- the island of the ancient monuments and 120 volcanoes- waits for you!

Nusa Penida - the diver's coral kingdomNusa Penida is an island located in the Eastern part of Bali, and is famous for its wonderful diving spots. Once you arrive in Bali, you should definitely draw up an itinerary for yourself, because there are so many beautiful places you must visit. If you are staying at Mia Villa, Nusa Penida is a two hour trip by boat. You should definitely book an early morning trip, so that you are on the island by 9am or 10am the latest. You will need a full day here if you want to take advantage of the amazing diving spots around this tiny island. Just make sure that you take care of all the details, such as:
- Taking proper diving equipment with you, which you can rent in several places; don’t forget those swimming fins!
- Ask the concierge service to direct you towards a good diving professional team that will guide you through the process.
Even if some of your family or friends are not into scuba diving, they can surely spend a pleasant day on Nusa Penida sunbathing and swimming in the clear blue waters. You also need to pack all the necessaries for the entire day, such as food and refreshments, as Nusa Penida is a less developed tourist-ready spot. You will certainly find a few traditional “warungs” where you can buy local delicacies, but in this part of paradise you are not going to find luxury restaurants.
Actually, Nusa Penida is the biggest of a formation of three islands, the other two being Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Ceningan. Diving in Nusa Penida will immerse you into a world of around 300 different species of coral and around 600 species of colorful fish.
Crystal Bay – the perfect beach on Nusa PenidaIf you want a place where you can relax and have a quiet day, just diving, snorkeling, sunbathing and setting up a nice picnic in the afternoon with your family, Crystal Bay is your top choice here on Nusa Penida. To get there, you need to go through Sakti (which is a small traditional village), and take the road to the west from there. Just ask around for directions if you are not on a guided tour, there is no way you can get lost here on Paradise Island.
Later, when you are done scuba diving, you can pack up and go visit the Sebuluh Waterfall, which is not far away from the village of Batu Madeg. Alternatively, you can visit the Puncak Mundi temple which located high up on a cliff, in the Mundi Hill region here in Nusa Penida. The hill is actually the highest point on the island, some 500+ meters above the sea level. Who said there aren’t plenty of amazing things to do and see on a tiny secluded island?
The best diving locations on the island…Well, there is quite a huge selection of amazing diving sites here on Nusa Penida. Some of these include Malibu Point, Toyapakeh, Lembongan Bay, Sampalan Dive, or SD Point and Suana Bay.
There are several well established diving schools available here, one of which is the MM Diving center in Toyapakeh, and the World Diving Centre is actually located on the neighboring island of Nusa Lembongan.

Menjangan Beach - the fantastic Bali experienceMenjangan is an island located not too far away from Pemuteran (you will have to take a short boat trip from Pemuteran to reach Menjangan), you will discover the most special side of Bali. Every corner of the island has something special to offer: temples, coral gardens, caves, an eel garden, a bat cave, and an anchor wreck. There is no way one can get bored on Menjangan Island.
Here are some extra specialties:

- A very diverse marine flora and fauna – both soft and hard coral reefs and sponges; colorful tropical fish and turtle species
- The water currents are generally calm- so any water sport activity can be undertaken even by beginners. Actually, the island in general offers you a very safe atmosphere.
Plenty of activities you can immerse yourself into
The list of activities you can be a part of here at Menjangan beach and West Bali National Park is very diverse, so just take your pick and enjoy:
- Scuba diving sessions – there are around ten different and exciting diving sports around the coast of Menjangan island. The water is very clear, so you will have maximum visibility. Watch the wonderful coral gardens and the colorful and magnificent reef walls that unveil in front of your eyes.
- Snorkeling is a great family activity you will highly enjoy. There are many guided trips, and all you need for a nice snorkeling session is to rent proper equipment – fins and masks for the entire family (around $10 at the most) and delight your eyes in the underwater flora and fauna.
- A little bit of exercise will do good for the entire family – the island is perfect for mountain biking tours –discover the beauties of nature on wheels.
- Horse riding tours – admire the magnificent sunset while on horse back or take a refreshing galloping tour right in the dewy morning. Such a guided tour can cost you between $30 and $75 at the most, depending on how long the tour is.

Lovina - Northern Bali's black sand beachLovina beach is located in the Northern part of Bali, and it is widely famous for its black volcanic sand beaches. Once in Bali, you should definitely experience not only the immaculate silvery white sand beaches, but the black volcanic beaches as well. They offer a separate amazing experience, and it is worth checking out Lovina beach at least for a whole day. The long beach stretches on and on, and it is perfect for those early morning or late afternoon walks. It is not unusual to see tourists on bikes exploring Lovina as well. This is a much quieter beach than the ones located in the South (such as Kuta for example), and it is also a favorite beach for a family outing.
Lovely place for swimming and diving The waters here are extremely calm, so Lovina beach is a very good spot for swimming. Just let yourself be rocked by the smooth waves, relax, and spend a wonderful day out here. This is also a perfect place if you come with little kids, because of the calmness of the sea and the fact there you will not find an overcrowded beach.
Other than that, you can indulge in scuba diving sessions, and admire the amazing underwater aquatic life. You can also book snorkeling trips around Lovina; these are usually beach activities much loved by the entire family, little ones and grownups alike. You will find certified diving centers here, where professionals will take care of all your needs.
Visit the wonderful sea creatures Lovina is a very famous spot for its dolphin trips. You can just book a dolphin trip with your family, and go see the dolphins in their natural habitat, splashing in and out of the waters and listen to their wonderful whistling, rattling and clicking sounds. These trips are usually taken early in the morning or at dawn, when you can catch a glimpse of the dolphins coming out from the waters. Such a trip generally costs around 70,000-80,000 Rupiah.
A visit to Dencarik village After you had enough of other beach activities, don’t forget to visit the Brahma Vihara Arama Buddhist temple. It is one of the largest and most striking sacred buildings, and here you will see wonderful temple gardens and golden statues of Buddha aligned in the surroundings.
A few kilometers away from Dencarik, there are the famous Hot Spring Baths (Banjar Springs). The bath is located west of Lovina Beach, so after a day spent in the cool waters of the sea, it is definitely worth a trip to the healing waters of the hot springs. Just immerse yourself in these healing waters, and come out refreshed and relaxed, ready to start your next day. It is a wonderful place amidst a tropical garden setup, and while you would think there would be heaps of people, you are going to be surprised at the space you can have for yourself here. It is a more secluded place, and this is the reason why many tourists tend to miss out on it.

Sindhu Beach - the quiet and peaceful beachLocated not too far away from the famous and more crowded Sanur beach, Sindhu is the perfect little spot to relax and enjoy a perfectly tranquil day at the beach. The water is perfect for swimming, and the black sand will give that pampering feeling to the soles of your feet.
Certainly, when you come to Bali with friends, you just yearn for the crowded atmosphere, for the beach clubs and bars, for the frantic surfers going up and down the waves and lots of people around you. But you can quickly wish you were on a deserted island, where you can just relax peacefully by listening to waves breaking on the shore while reading your favorite book, or just picking shells. When you arrive at that point, Sindhu beach is the perfect location. If you are staying at the Mia Villa Resort, it will take you around an hour to get there.
If you want sports action…Here at Sindhu beach you can keep fit for sure, because there are several sports activities that are offered to you. You can catch a game of beach volley with your friends, or why not make new friends by joining a game. The sand is perfect for this sport, and afterwards you can relax and have a nice cold drink at one of the beach bars not so far away.
Other than that, you can also find open air tennis courts or you can take golf lessons as well; sports fanatics can definitely find their place at Sindhu beach. Water activities include diving, surfing or even snorkeling.
Families with little childrenYou may already know how it can be traveling with some rucksacks and two little children on crowded beaches full of vendors and tourists. These are no places for when you are with your little ones, especially if you wish to spend a serene day where you can relax too.
Sindhu beach is perfect for a family outing, and if you have little kids, they will feel very joyful here. The waters are quite calm and warm, so you can take them for a nice splash in the ocean. Then, here you can also make up family activities, such as picking shells, building sand castles (the sand is particularly good for that in Sindhu!), or simply tanning in the sun. Don’t forget to rent parasols and have sunscreen for the entire family. You will love the tranquil atmosphere here at Sindhu.
Snorkeling can be yet another activity that the little ones can be engaged in; just make sure to rent or buy proper equipment, and have some shallow water snorkeling fun for the entire family. There are also some very good conditions for fishing at Sindhu; again, an activity that can be enjoyed by the entire family. One such eventful day at the beach, and the kids will get to sleep very quickly; and you can watch the sunset and go for a nice dinner in one of the open terraced restaurants here. What a perfect day!

Sanur Beach - the black volcanic sand beachSilvery white sandy beaches are the finest in the world, but black volcanic sand beaches are a rarity and they provide a unique experience. Sanur is a traditional village, and you are going to experience a beachfront and a village that offers tradition intertwined with modernism. There are many places in Sanur where you can watch theatrical and dance performances that are specific to Balinese culture, but you can also indulge in having your dinner at luxurious and modern restaurants. We could call Sanur the tourist paradise with two faces: one traditional and one contemporary.
Experience leisure and sports There are plenty of water sports activities in Sanur, which will keep your day busy at the beach. Swimming here is a fantastic experience thanks to the clean, cool and calm waters. Sanur beach is also the place to be if you have small kids with you, as the water is simply perfect for them too. The waves are safe, and the temperature of the water is pleasant; if you want a one day special beach outing with your family, Sanur should be your choice. If you like to explore, then you should know of a tiny secret: go down south of Sanur, to Sindhu beach, and you will find a wonderful blue lagoon waiting for you!
Because of the clean waters and diverse underwater life, snorkeling is yet another favorite activity. Watch the amazing life beneath the waves, relax and swim your way through all those wonderfully animated plants, corals and fish. If you are more of a daring person, then you can try out diving or kite surfing, which are two very popular water sports activities here in Sanur. Diving professionals will assist you on your journey, and you should know that there are a few specifically safe diving spots where children or people with disabilities can safely watch the underwater life as well. This way everybody can get to see the wonders of Bali!
Cultural Landmarks of Sanur When you have had enough of sunbathing and surfing and diving, you should start your journey of cultural exploration. History is a part of us all, and it would be a pity not to dedicate at least half a day for visiting all the wonderful landmarks here in the area.
The Le Mayeur Museum is a very famous museum where impressionist Adrian Jean Le Mayeur has several paintings exhibited. He was a painter who simply fell in love with the wonderful island of Bali, and actually decided to live the rest of his life here. A spot you are not allowed to miss when you come to Sanur.
The Santrian Gallery is actually an open air gallery exhibiting wonderful pieces of sculpture and painting. Finally, yet importantly, the Seiki Torige Gallery is an open-air pottery gallery, where you are going to see some world class pieces on exhibition.
As you can see, Sanur indeed has it all;
- the perfect oasis for a family outing
- the place where you can relax and swim in the azure ocean all day long
- the place where you can indulge in extreme sports activities
- the little land of great cultural wonders: it has 2 major open air galleries, and one world class museum establishment.
